Auction Inquisitor Analysis Software - This is a free program that will analyze auctions and alert you if it finds signs that are normally associated with fraudulent auctions or problem sellers. You can see a video demonstration of this software HERE.

My Little Mole Toolbar - This is a free toolbar for both Internet Explorer and Firefox. It will alert you if you visit one of many thousands of known fraudulent websites, dishonest spam websites, and it will alert you if you go to a spoof website(a look-alike or fake eBay or PayPal site or a fake banking website). Tadpole Auction Watcher - This is not a security tool but it certainly is a handy utility. This program monitors eBay and alerts you when items matching keywords you are interested in appear or when items are added to your favorite categories. Commercial Software

The below software is not free but it is very important that every Internet user have this software. If you do not install a reliable anti-virus and firewall program then your computer is open to hackers and scammers. They will not only steal your information, they will use your computer to attack other people's computers to steal their personal information and steal from them. They may steal bank account information, PayPal passwords, or other information. If every person on the Internet had this software, it would greatly reduce the number of hijacked accounts and the amount of spam sent.

The free anti-virus software that came with your computer will NOT protect you. It is free for a reason and it usually stops fully working after 30 days. We have tested several anti-virus programs and none were perfect. However we have had the best all around results with Zone Alarm. After you install this software, watch their flash video tutorial(upper right corner of the software window where it says Flash Tutorial). It will help you understand how to use the software. After it is setup and it learns which programs on your computer normally access the Internet, it will run quietly in the background. You should uninstall the free anti-virus software that came with your computer and immediately install Zone Alarm after your purchase. If you are already using a product like McAfee or Norton Antivirus that you purchased, you will still need firewall protection. Make sure you have the Security Suite versions that include both anti-virus and firewall protection. If you do not have both, your computer is not protected. Do not use any computer on the Internet that does not have both anti-virus and firewall software.

Scammers use many tricks to install trojan programs, viruses, key-loggers, and other programs that will take over your computer, steal your information or worse. EBay scammers often sell cheap eBooks that contain trojans or viruses which will send all of your information, eBay and PayPal passwords and more to the scammer. (Please note that none of the software we tested had anti-phishing features as effective as the free MyLittleMole toolbar above). Scammers may also send trojan programs to buyers claiming it is a payment form or that it is a form they must fill out for shipping purposes but when the person runs it, they actually install a trojan on their computer that gives the scammer full access to everything including their passwords and bank accounts. Software like Zone Alarm will help protect you from such scammers. If such a program is installed on your computer, Zone Alarm Firewall will popup and alert you that the program is trying to access the Internet and give you the option to block it or allow it.
